INTRODUCING YOU TO OUR WORLD: The Henry Christophe Campus of the State University of Haiti

"I am reborn from my ashes; like the phoenix"

This is the motto of the Henry Christophe Campus of the State University of Haiti in Limonade (Campus Henry Christophe de l’Université d’État d’Haïti à Limonade, also CHCL or CHC-UEH-L). This sentence well sums up the meaning of the 12th entity of the UEH, inaugurated on January 12, 2012, for the second commemoration of our deceased in the tragic “goudougoudou” of 2010 as a gift from the Dominican Republic in the persons of Michel Joseph Martelly (Haiti) and Leonel Fernández (Dominican Republic).

The CHC-UEH-L is the most recent entity of the UEH, its first campus integrating more than twenty disciplines divided into six faculties since 2021: Faculty of Engineering Sciences (FES), Faculty of Arts and Education Sciences (FAES), Faculty of Earth, Environment and Spatial Planning Sciences (FEESPS), Faculty of Agricultural and Fisheries Sciences (FAFS), Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS).

The Henry Christophe Campus of Limonade is equipped with a set of eight buildings: four for the classes, under three levels, the administration and amphitheater, the laboratories, the cafeteria and the student life’s bureau. More than 2,500 students and professors make up the campus population. As some might believe, the CHCL does not yet have its own dormitory, but some of the students are housed in katye kreyòl (creole quarter) in the nearby EKAM village. Beyond its buildings that responds international standards, in their heyday, the CHCL enjoys a very animated student life notably with activities powered by students’ associations including ASPE (Phoenix Sportive Association), AEP (psychology students) or AECAT (students for technology).

The integration days, the traditional FAFS’s job fair, the FAES’s music festival and teachers' day, the brain week by students in Health sciences, psychology and psychoeducation are only some of the so many programs that animate the lively space of the CHCL in addition to the courses and academic outings. The students’ life’s bureau also initiates sports competitions that are right and privileged moments of relaxation and expression of various talents at CHCL. The so-called State University of Haiti in Limonade is also its students. Known for being ingenious and among the most skilled of the region, they also have entrepreneurial mind and the art of partying. And the two work well together in our case! Indeed, much of us is both successful entrepreneurs and still having good grades.

Even more true is that our attendance, for those who make it through, is most found in the local institutions.

Let's keep ourselves from citing classifications available in order to justify what the CHCL means to the North Department of Haiti, but the presence in the region's institutions of professionals who were trained in is a loudly speaking factor of the greatness of the phoenix of the North or at least its importance in the North Department and the country’s social landscape.

The Henry Christophe campus of the State University of Haiti in Limonade is the challenge that almost all students dream of taking on after completing their high school diploma. Stressful for some, stimulating for others, but facts remain that the Henry Christophe Campus of Limonade is a true haven of knowledge and enhancing of a professional life and career of young people from all over the country.

So let’s meet on the 6 th National Road, Limonade, Cap-Haitian! Welcome then!
